I recently traveled to the island of Jeju, South Korea to stand with them against the building of a South Korean naval base (with strong Pentagon support) less than 500km from Shanghai.
On August 3rd I marched with the yellow shirts to protest the building of this base, which is a major provocation of China, and is ecologically ruining the water, agriculture, and natural beauty of Jeju Island, part of which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The farmers, fishermen, and Catholic priests have been protesting this base night and day for the last 6 years.
During my visit to the construction site, large bodies of riot police were nearby removing the Catholic priests and nuns from in front of the gates to allow cement trucks in and out while I was there. The base, I believe, will be finished by 2015.
